The Top Ten Steps for Wellness

Every day we get to start over and work on being healthy.  Make the following ten steps your goal to wellness.

  1. Start the day with Breakfast. Your body will need the nutrients for a good start to the day and will help stabilize your blood sugar.
  2. Want a snack? Why not try fresh fruit, vegetables with a yogurt or hummus dip, rice cake and low fat or raw cheese.
  3. Don’t forget to get your five portions of fruits and vegetables a day and also remember to eat most of them raw so you get the nutrients and enzymes for optimal health.
  4. Water, what you body needs! Drink at least 8 glasses a day to keep your body’s organs functioning optimally.
  5. Eat your whole grains! They are a good source of fiber.
  6. Don’t forget to eat some fat. Just make sure it’s the right fat. The right fat are essential fatty acids (EFA) and can be found in flaxseed oil and olive oil.
  7. Calcium for strong bones. Not only found in dairy products but also found in spinach, kale and broccoli, and some legumes and soybean products.
  8. Your body also needs protein. Protein can be found in animal products but is also abundant in nuts and seeds, pulses, soya products, and in cereals (wheat, oats, and rice).
  9. Stay away from foods that are high in sugar and simple carbohydrates.
  10. Try to prepare your food at home as much as possible. Firstly it’s less expensive than eating out but more importantly you know what’s in the food you make and you can cut down on all the processed chemicals that many foods contain today.

You can increase your health and wellness by making choices each and every day that will bring you closer to your goal of being your best.
